Thrift Store Shopping: A is for Amazing!

What a way to start a new year of thrifting! My local Salvation Army holds a monthly $.99 sale on the first Friday of the month; the Thursday before is  1/2 off day. Today we scored…

Forget the letter A; this book is amazing- every letter has multiple craft ideas, recipes, and activities. For example, Bella is currently learning the letter H. The letter H stands for… hair, hammer, hands, happy, hat, hearing, heart, height, hide, holes, home, hop, horse, hospital, hot, hula hoop, and hungry. The recipes are “Hurry-Up Honey Butter on Honey Bread,” “Hot Dog Hot Rods,” and “Homemade Heavenly Hash.” Okay, so I will not be feeding my child hot dogs anytime soon, but the other recipes are doable. I’ve been thinking about delving into our letters more than we have been; a book such as this will inspire me to make our weekly letter even more of a major part of our daily lives. You can buy one for as long as $4.97 shipped at here, at half.com. I actually highly recommend this book- as long as you ignore the rather unhealthy recipes! 🙂

The next amazing discovery was Zimbbos! A game constructed entirely out of wood (which I ADORE!), Zimbbos! will help Bella with numbers, counting, and fine motor skills. Each player rolls the dice to find how many elephants they are to use for their turn. Starting with number one, the elephants must be balanced on top of one another using a balancing beam. One of Bella’s favorite buys was a fishing pole that “works.” I’ll be gluing a magnet to the bottom to make a fish game out of it. We also found an Eye-Spy type book that is more difficult than the ones she has. I also bought clothes for the kidlets and a few other books. Today was the most amazing thrift store day I’ve had in a long time!

    1. It absolutely is. 🙂 It’s such a great feeling to leave a store with clothes for $.99 each. Even Bella loves to shop at thrift stores. It’s not as overwhelming to a small child as, say, Wal-Mart is.

      1. Today I found my teenage son three long sleeve casual shirts that he loved and a suit for church that is stylish and fits him perfectly, brand new. All for under $6.00!
